The BOB Ironman Stroller – From An Athlete's Point Of View

The BOB Ironman running stroller is designed especially to meet the demands of triathlon caliber athletes and is one of an elite group of running strollers that provide equal amounts of performance and endurance. The Ironman has all of the same standard features of the entire range of BLOB jogging strollers but, weighing just 20.4 pounds, it is by far the most lightweight running stroller in BOB's impressive line up.

This is how the BOB Ironman stroller is described by BOB themselves but how does it rate with actual athletes?

I researched several reviews for the BOB ironman stroller from parents who ran or jogged on a daily basis and also from several who were in training for marathons and so were clocking up a considerable amount of miles. This is what I found:

PROS
  • Whatever your height it is easy to run with the BOB Ironman stroller. One lady who is 5'2 said she was easily able to run along behind it, without her feet catching the bottom bar, whereas her husband, who is 6' prefers to run alongside it because of the length of his strides.
  • Parents are able to use the BOB Ironman stroller almost from birth with the addition of the car seat adapter although it is necessary to use additional padding to protect the head and neck area, to allow the baby to ride safely and comfortably.
  • Both the BOB ironman stroller and the car seat adapter are very easy to assemble and the easy fold design makes it possible to both fold and load the stroller into the back of a SUV whilst holding on to the child
  • Another plus feature was the window in the canopy which makes it easy to check on baby from the rear of the stroller. It was also commented that the sun shield provided great coverage and the the wind shield fitted very well.
  • The BOB ironman stroller has an impressive five year warranty on the frame and one year warranty on smaller parts

CONS
  • The lip at the top edge of the seat may interfere with a taller child
  • The tracking adjuster for the BOB ironman stroller was difficult to use and several attempts were needed to get it right
  • The tyres are quite flimsy and several parents experienced flat tyres within a short space of time. It was easy to buy replacement tubes at approximately $9 each, but it was felt that the company really ought to provide stronger tyres, considering the price of the BOB ironman stroller
Overall the BOB Ironman stroller was a wow with most parents, who certainly felt it was one of the best purchases they had made.
